Ramadan! The Holy month of Muslims. The month where one prays and fasts with complete devotion and dedication. Staying hungry till the sun sets gives the stomach a rest and a time to rejuvenate. No sins should be committed during this holy month and giving charity to people in need is considered as one of the greatest deeds. Minor sins like gossiping, jealousy, anger too are a “taboo”. There is no point in praying the namaz and fasting the entire day if these sins are committed on a regular basis.

As the month progresses, people find it more and more difficult to keep up with staying without food and water the whole day, especially where days are long or when the heat is unbearable.

When the month is coming close to an end, people get more excited in anticipation of the festival, Eid.

Eid is celebrated when 30 days of fasting come to an end. New clothes are bought for every member of the family. Jewelry, sweets, clothes and money is given as gifts to friends and family.

This Year, Eid al-Fitr will begin in the evening of Wednesday, May 12 and end in the evening of Thursday, May 13.

During the festival, relatives and friends get together to greet each other and have a grand feast. Smiles and joy are seen on their faces as the long, blessed month gets over.
