Presidential Palace | Overlooking Quito’s Independence Square, the grand Presidential Palace is currently the seat of government of the Republic of Ecuador. Built in the French Renaissance and Spanish Baroque architectural styles, the colonial mansion once served as headquarters of Gran Colombia, a short-lived republic that stretched from the top of South America and the bottom half of Central America—after the Battle of Pichincha in 1822.
