From Vedic times, the Bindi was created as a means to worship one's intellect. Bindis may be used by both men and women. The worship of intellect was used in order to ensure that our thoughts, speech, actions, habits and ultimately our character became pure.

A strong intellect can help one make noble decisions, be able to stand up to challenges with courage, and recognize and welcome good thoughts in life. A strong individual forms a strong family and then a strong society.
In meditation, this very spot between the eyebrows is where one focuses his/her sight, so that it helps concentration. Traditionally, the area between the eyebrows (where the Bindi is placed) is said to be the sixth chakra, the seat of "concealed wisdom". The Bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. It can represent the third eye.
“That's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” - Steve Jobs
